Mallorca Cala d'Or lies on the south east coast
of Mallorca and is about 65km from Palma. Cala d'Or today is a modern
purpose built resort that has grown from an original Mallorcan fishing
village.
Mallorca Cala D'Or has now spread over approx 4km of small nearby
sandy coves and creeks. Although in all fairness, the town still
has the feeling of a small village and has few, if any, high rise
buildings. The largest cove is called Cala Llonga, which has become
a large marina that effectively splits the resort in two. The focal
point of the town centre is a walk zone around the area Cala Gran,
which has a varied selection of shops, bars and restaurants.
The largest beach in Mallorca named Cala Gran is located close to
Cala D'Or, about 40m wide and 100m deep. Near Cala Gran is Cala
d'Or itself, from which the resort takes its name. This is a pine
cove with a small but crowded beach. Sun loungers and parasols can
be rented at both of these beaches, and also at nearby Cala Mondrago.
Most have selection of water sports available at reasonable rates.
